Manapouri & Doubtful Sound
The journey to access the fiord combined with limitations that exist on the number of commercial boats who can operate in Doubtful Sound mean that those making the journey here get to experience a very peaceful and remote part of New Zealand.
Visitors wishing to travel to Doubtful Sound depart from Pearl Harbour in Manapouri and cruise the Lake Manapouri to West Arm. From here, an hour long coach trip travels over the Wilmot Pass from West Arm to Deep Cove.
Cruise boats depart Deep Cove and head out to explore the fiord and its many 'arms'. The entire journey is then repeated in reverse to come back via Wilmot Pass and Lake Manapouri, until once again reaching Pearl Harbour.
A Street Map of the township of Manapouri can be found on the Te Anau & Manapouri Map page within this website.
