Rainy Day Activities
Fiordland is well known for its rainy climate so there’s no use denying it! More than anything else we recommend coming to the region prepared for rain with appropriate clothing and attitude to enable you to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells that a rainy day in Fiordland offers.

Many of the valley and lakeside walkways, not to mention any of the spectacular cruise options on either Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri or Milford or Doubtful Sounds come alive with waterfalls in a good downpour.
• if you forget to pack your raincoat Outside Sports Te Anau or Bev’s Tramping Gear can hire you an entire wet weather clothing set for a very reasonable rate.
• Department of Conservation have an excellent set of displays and also run an audio visual that provides an excellent insight to the region.
• view the spectacular waterfalls on Milford Road or in Milford or Doubtful Sound Cruises
• the Te Anau Glowworm Caves are a great activity wet or fine
• visit the Manapouri Power Station and view the turbines within the massive underground cavern
• visit the Fiordland Cinema to view Ata Whenua or catch a movie
• spend time relaxing in one of the many cafes or restaurants in Te Anau
• visit Te Anau’s library and have a good read |
