Hump Ridge Track-Photograph by Al Weir

With views of Southland, Te Waewae Bay, Lakes Poteriteri and Hauroko this track provides a wide variety of scenery passing through landscapes that include coastline, the world famous Waitutu coastal marine terraces, podocarp and beech forest, to sub alpine settings and spectacular sandstone outcrops.

The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track is a challenging 3 day/2 night walking experience.

The track is managed and operated by the Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track Trust inc. The 53 kilometre circuit track starts from Bluecliff Beach at the Rarakau Farm carpark. The first night is spent at Okaka Hut on the Hump Ridge with the second night at Port Craig Village, then returning via Bluecliffs Beach.
Trampers may choose to stay the second night in the Port Craig Schoolhouse (DOC hut therefore not the same facilities as the HRT huts). Between six to nine hours walking is required each day to complete the track. The direction of travel may change from time to time, depending on track and tidal conditions and management requirements.
The track office and Tuatapere Information Centre is at 31 Orawia Road, Tuatapere, check in here to pick up your hut passes, leave your intentions, get updates on weather and track conditions.
