2008 Stabi-Craft Yamaha Te Anau Fishing Tournament

Labour Weekend
25th & 26th October 2008

Stabi-Craft and Yamaha are the major sponsors for the 2008 Fishing Tournament being held in Te Anau over Labour Weekend. The event will also incorporate a boat and car show and safety displays.

Major Prize: Stabi-Craft 459 Fish'r $30,000. Plus other prizes to a total value of $50,000. Prize categories include individuals men and women, Juniors 12-17, children under 12 and teams. The Department of Conservation runs a Holiday Programme in Fiordland offering all sorts of adventures in the National Park during the summer months.
The Department tries to open the park for all ages and do things in the park that are not an every day visitor attraction.
This annual series of events aims to offer opportunities for Department of Conservation staff and others to share with New Zealanders some of the more difficult to get to places, with nature & cultural interpretation from their extensive resources - come and explore aspects of this vast World Heritage Area.
This programme takes place each January.

Nike ACG Kepler Challenge & Luxmore Grunt

The Kepler Challenge

This unique, ultra marathon event has been staged annually since 1988.
Recognised as a popular event within running circles, entrants are attracted from around New Zealand and overseas. Following the Kepler track the run traverses contrasting terrain, from bush clad river valleys to barren mountain peaks. The total distance is 60 kilometres, which includes an ascent of 1200 metres up Mount Luxmore.
The event serves two groups, the elite ultra marathon runners and the individuals running for personal challenge.

The Luxmore Grunt

Held in conjunction with the Kepler Challenge, this 28 kilometre run climbs the 1000 metres to Luxmore Hut before returning to the start point at the Te Anau control gates.
This demanding course zigzags the steep slopes of Mount Luxmore and includes alpine tussock fields and the beech forrest along the shores of Lake Te Anau.

Te Anau Rodeo Association Annual Rodeo

The Te Anau Rodeo is a great local favourite, and a good chance to view extraordinary examples of horsemanship and stock handling, as well as all the usual rodeo favourites. Part of a South Island circuit of rodeo events, a great day out.

Meridian Energy Celebrity Walk Week

6-7 March 2009

This annual event takes place each November and provides a prime opportunity to dust off your boots, grab your friends and explore New Zealand's new frontier in tramping experiences with a few celebrities in the lap of luxury on an all inclusive 3 day guided walk.
All proceeds go to the Tuatapere Hump Track Charitable Trust for maintenance and improvements of the track and facilities.
