Free Stuff

Scenery is what most people come to Fiordland for, and it is spectacular, best of all you can get to see much of it entirely for free!

Te Anau Town Centre

• Entering the National Park is entirely FREE so whether you choose to drive the spectacular Milford Road or just visit a few of the scenic stopping points within the park there is no need to pay.
• a huge variety of long or short walks can be undertaken at no cost (unless you choose to stay in one of the many overnight huts which do require a minimal overnight tariff)
• Department of Conservation have great displays at the Visitor Centre
• view the Takahe and other birds at the Wildlife Centre
• visit Ivon Wilson Park
• go to the viewing point at Ramparts Road to get a great overview of Te Anau township and lake
• an evening lakeside stroll is magical in the long summer evenings
• the water of Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri are often described as refreshing even in summer months but can provide a great deal of splashing fun in summer when it gets a little warmer
