The Great Walks are considered to be among New Zealand’s greatest visitor experiences. Luckily, for visitors to Fiordland, you will find three of these ten Great Walks on your doorstep.

What is a Great Walk?

New Zealand's Great Walks are premier tracks that pass through diverse and spectacular scenery and offer multi-day hiking experiences. There are 10 Great Walks in New Zealand and Fiordland is home to three of them - The Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks.

How do I book a Great Walk?

If you are hiking independently, contact the Department of Conservation for hut bookings and track passes. It is also possible to hike the Great Walks as part of a guided tour. Find guided walks here.

How hard is the Milford Track?

The Milford Track is a multi-day hike that requires a good level of fitness and preparation. It is possible to hike the Milford Track independently or as part of a guided walk.
